How does it work? Deodorizing of Odor Molecules plus Anti-Bacterial Effect.

When a photo catalyst is exposed to light in the presence of water vapor, two highly reactive substances are formed: hydroxyl radicals [OH] and a super oxide anion [O2-1]. Photocatalysts for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

Photocatalysts for the destruction of indoor air pollutants, including VOCs and gaseous inorganic pollutants such as nitrous oxides, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen cyanide, are currently in development (Heller, 1996). Photocatalytic air cleaners are composed of a photocatalyst, an ultraviolet light source that illuminates the catalyst surface, and a fan that passes air over the catalyst surface. The photocatalyst absorbs photons of ultraviolet light to drive oxidation and reduction reactions on the catalyst surface. These reactions reportedly convert organic pollutants to carbon dioxide and water. Reports of initial tests show the technology capable of rapidly destroying toxic components of tobacco smoke such as formaldehyde, acrolein, and benzene.

Catalytic Chemical Air Filters

Another mechanism for chemical filtration involves the catalytic conversion of one volatile compound into another, less hazardous compound. For example, harmful ozone can be catalytically converted on a carbon surface into oxygen (Weschler, et al., 1994). This mechanism occurs on the surface of adsorbent media to which specific catalysts have been added. Catalytic chemical air filters are advantageous in that active adsorption surface sites are recycled through catalysis rather than consumed by captured pollutants. Catalytic panels are being developed that effectively remove nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and carbon monoxide from ambient air at room temperature; however, they are not yet available for residential application. Possibly, their use can be extended to aldehydes and ketones as well because these compounds contain the carbonyl group present in carbon monoxide. These catalytic chemical air filters may prove useful in cleaning intake air in areas where ambient air quality standards are not met.

Hi Daliya,

I was very impressed with this photocatlytic spray. I had been hunting for months for a product that was effective at removing formaldehyde and other toxins from the fabrics I use. The asian fabrics are often saturated in preservatives and other finishes due to the high humidity they have to deal with, but I was not aware of this until I linked some symptoms I was experiencing (itchy skin and eyes and wheezing) with the fabrics. As they constitute my business, I was reluctant to give them up, but was horrified at the thought of inflicting the chemicals on my unsuspecting customers and didn't want to risk my health further, or that of my child. This product has literally saved my livelihood and I can sleep again now that my conscience is clear! Thanks again for bringing this to my attention.

"Daliya, The carbon blankets are brilliantly original. I put the carbon blankets in some large sheets but, do take them off when company comes. I use the lava rock bags (Zeolite type) in the furniture and behind the pillows. I have a bag on a paper plate under each piece of furniture. I know the furniture is still emitting fumes, because if I remove the rocks and carbon blankets, it is still apparent. These fumes can cause me to run fevers. I had to drop out of a class I was taking because they carpeted the building. I became very ill. I have not run any fevers with the new sofa and couch by using the above approach. The combination of the two products is miraculous. I just bought a china cupboard and am using the same combination to absorb those fumes, too. Many, many thanks, Sue in Pennsylvania. "
